About
SOTW, Song of the Week, is a video podcast and blog produced by me, Jeremy Pierson. Each week I write, record and publish a new song for a video podcast and supplemental text blog.
The main impetus for Song of the Week is to give myself solid motivation to be as prolific a songwriter as possible. By setting the goal of one new song a week, I will accomplish that goal. The downside to this project is that it leaves very little time for arranging and producing, so what we’re left with is some very stripped-down songwriting with just my voice and either a guitar or keyboard or possibly a percussive instrument. The upside is that I will be writing continuously, and if the songs sound okay in such a lean format, then any glossy production value will be all the better, as opposed to “polishing a turd“.
Not only do I seek to write new songs and highlight them on this blog, I hope for this blog to be a sort of running journal chronicling my efforts as a songwriter and aspiring musician. I will also try to discuss whatever’s going on in my life musically, from musicians that I meet, to feedback from fans and other musicians, to learning to play and write on new musical instruments, to whatever. Initially these efforts will likely be split across the blog and the videos, until I figure out what balance works best. I’m thinking I will reserve the video portion for just the musical performances, and leave all the talky stuff to my blog, where people can read it if they’re interested and skip it if they’re not.
This is all done mostly just to encourage myself to write more, but if anyone out there listens and enjoys it, that’s all the better, and I encourage people to leave their comments. Some people write music for themselves. I write for an audience. I hope the audience is listening.
